About

Steve and Julie Hergenroeder are the owners of Garden Terrace Assisted Living.  Steve was literally “born and raised” in the Residential Care Industry. His great-grandparents operated “board and care” homes in Colorado in the early 1900’s and his grandfather, Clarence Redding, built and operated many of the Skilled Nursing Facilities in Fresno including Hope Manor. Clarence also lobbied for the Nursing Home Administration and wrote several of their licensing regulations. Steve’s mom was raised in Hope Manor and now owns and operates two large facilities in Southern California. Steve is a fourth generation administrator and over the last 25 years he has worked in and directed several communities in Fresno.  He also has worked for national companies bringing communities into compliance with Community Care Licensing and developing new prototypes for Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s Communities.  Julie Hergenroeder, started in daycare in the 80’s and then joined Steve in 1995 as the Activities Director in an Alzheimer’s community.  Over the years, Steve and Julie had noticed that there was a population of residents that were “falling through the cracks” so to speak. There were residents that needed more care but really were not ready for Skilled Nursing Facilities.  Steve and Julie both realized that there were also many Dementia clients that did not do as well in even the best large facilities. They felt there was a need for a new kind “board and care” So in 1997, they started Garden Terrace Assisted Living!

From our Caregivers!

From a Caregiver who has been with us since 2009

Garden Terrace is a small, loving, home like environment, which gives the caregivers a better opportunity to spend one on one time with the residents and get to know them as a person.Getting to hear everyone’s stories about the “good old days” is always a high light of my day. Here everyone becomes a whole new family unit where we all encourage and support one another. I have worked in other care facilities and let me tell you, your not going to find another place that will make you and your loved ones feel welcomed and at home.
